1. Burn more calories than you consume. This probably sounds obvious and you’ve no doubt heard it countless times before, but this fact is far greater than any fad diet or miracle food you will come across. Consider this a fundamental.
2. Keep a journal. You need to be writing down your calorie intake on a daily basis. This will keep an accurate account of how you are doing, but make sure to be completely honest.
3. Find out your base metabolism and set yourself a goal of 500 calories less. This is an actionable goal you can set yourself and it is always good to have a target. If you do not know your base metabolism then don’t worry, we’ll cover that later
4. Only choose good sources of fat. Even when dieting it is important to be consuming fat, but the right kinds of fats. Avoid foods packed with saturated fats and trans fatty acids and have fatty fish and virgin olive oil instead.
5. Eat small balanced meals throughout the day. If you eat rarely you are much more likely to snack and eat way more in your main meals. Eating small meals more regularly will keep your energy high and remove the likelihood of snacking.

6. Avoid alcohol. If you like a drink now and then you may be tempted to have a few drinks to relax with. As you are dieting try and stay away from alcoholic drinks and only consume them infrequently if at all. You will be glad in the long term.
7. Do cardio work to shed the pounds. Try and make this part of your routine even of you hate the gym and try and avoid it at all costs. If you prefer not to visit a gym then try and take up running or use a bicycle. There are plenty of home options when it comes to gym equipment and you should choose the option that suits you best. 8. Consider weight training. Lifting weights is not just about body building and growing huge muscle mass. Adding a weight training element to your training for both men and women can do wonders for fat loss and you are not going to develop huge biceps training with small weights occasionally.
9. Make sure you have a day where you ‘cheat’ and indulge yourself a little bit. The key to doing this right though is to schedule the day in advance and do not overdo it. If you schedule a day then you have something to look forward to and motivate you. Give yourself one treat and work extra hard in the days before.
10. Eat well. Try and stick to healthy, good food and stay away from sugary drinks and snacks. If you can budget it then pick good cuts of meat and not get tempted by the pre-packed microwave meals that are unhealthy.
